Complete the following steps to create alert notification rules:

  1. From the Alerts & Logs page, select Set up Alerts.

  2. Select Add to open the Alert wizard interface. The Alert wizard is a four-step interface for creating alert rules. This process includes the following steps:

    1. Specifying the Alert Type(s) to add to the alert rule.

    2. Selecting the accounts/groups to apply the alert rule.

    3. Setting an interval for when alert notifications are sent and specifying the recipients of the notification email or Webhook destinations.

    4. Reviewing a summary of the alert rule and saving the alert rule.

  3. Specify the Alert Type(s) to create on the Alert Type screen.

Alert types from more than one category can be selected. In the following image, three Configuration-related alert types are selected, two General Alert Types are selected, and two Modem-related alert types are selected.

    Note

Some alerts can be set with specific time thresholds or other limitations. Enabling these additional settings reduces the number of notifications sent. Refer to Alert Type Categories and Definitions for more information.

    Note

Carrier Data alert types require slightly more configuration than other alert types. See Creating Carrier Data Alerts for details.

  4. Select Next after selecting the alert type(s) for the alert rule.

  5. Select the account or groups to apply the alert rule. Selecting the top-level account selects all the groups and nested accounts that belong to the top-level account. Alternatively, select just a single group or a combination of groups (as shown below), to apply the alert rule.

Select Next after selecting the accounts/groups for the alert rule.

    Note

Select Back to view settings or make changes on previous screens.

  6. Select the interval for when the alert is logged to the alert log and when email or push (Webhook) notifications are sent. The following notification intervals are available:

Email and push notifications are sent only when an interval other than None is selected. Push notifications are only available for the Immediately delivery interval.

    Alerts Delivery Interval page
    • None: Logs the alert but does not send a notification.

    • Immediately: Logs the alert and sends notifications of the alert when it occurs.

      Note

Immediately is the only Delivery Interval that allows the selection of a Webhook destination (along with also being able to select email recipients). Hourly and Daily only allow you to select email recipients. Previously you were allowed to set Webhook destinations for Hourly or Daily, even though Webhook alerts were sent only when Immediately was selected. Webhook destinations were designed to exclusively support immediate alert processing.

    • Hourly: Logs the alert and sends notifications to the configured email recipients at the beginning of the hour following the alert occurrence.

    • Daily: Logs the alert and sends a notification to the configured email recipients at the beginning of the next day (12:00 a.m. based on UTC).

  7. Select the Webhook Destinations or Email Recipients to activate for the rule alerts.

    Note

Select Manage Destinations to add or change the available Webhook Destinations, which are used only for the delivery interval of Immediately.

See the following topics in this article for details:

    • Adding Webhook Destinations

    • Managing Webhook Destinations

Select Next after specifying the notification settings and recipients for the alert rule.

  8. Review the alert settings on the Summary screen. Select Finish to save the alert rule or select Back to make changes.
