Following are the supported configurations types:
Default Configuration - The out-of-box settings applied to the device when it was manufactured.
Local Configuration - Local configuration remains a part of Cradlepoint’s pre-NetCloud process to configure an individual device. While it is still possible to use Local configuration by logging directly into the device or using Remote Connect (in NetCloud Manager), using NetCloud’s device and group configuration (see below) is the preferred and best supported method of configuring a fleet of devices.
Device Configuration - Device Configuration, performed in NetCloud Manager, is used to build a unique configuration for a specific device. Device level configuration settings are sticky and persist regardless of the Group to which the device is assigned.
Group Configuration - Group Configuration, performed in NetCloud Manager, is used to efficiently roll out common settings to a group of devices of the same product type (for example, IBR900 or E300 routers). This feature is used to simplify the management of multiple devices, reduce configuration time, and ensure consistency.
Note
Upgrading device firmware (NCOS) can only be performed using Groups. Cradlepoint strongly suggests using Groups, even for small deployments.
Device AND Group Configuration - IT admins often need to roll out devices where most of the configuration is shared (Group configuration), and the remaining configuration settings are unique (Device configuration). In this case, both Device and Group configurations are applied to the target devices.
Caution
When using Device and Group configurations together, it is important to understand the configuration hierarchy. Refer to the Configuration Priority section below.
