Until April 2026, Ericsson Cradlepoint devices with an internal or external Ericsson Cradlepoint modem hosted at least two separate software images: the NetCloud OS and the modem software. Devices released in April 2026, and devices released from then on, host a Unified Software set for both NetCloud OS and modem software. Keeping each router's NetCloud OS updated avoids missing newly released features and potential security fixes, and in the case of new Unified Software devices, removes the need to manage Modem software separately. Keeping your legacy modem software updated ensures you have the best possible connection to your cellular carrier's infrastructure but is automatic for Unified Software devices. Cradlepoint recommends using NetCloud Manager to easily manage the files for both Unified Software devices and legacy devices

Important

It is imperative that the router and modem software images for pre-5GF devices are compatible with each other and current to ensure you have the best Ericsson Cradlepoint experience possible.

Whenever possible, upgrade the NetCloud OS using groups in NetCloud Manager. Before updating router or modem software at scale, it is important to first use a controlled test group to verify the update will have minimal issues and impact on your currently deployed devices.

  • With the controlled test group, before updating either image, ensure that both the router and modem images are compatible with each other.

  • To check router and modem software compatibility, see Router, Access Point, and Modem Firmware Downloads. Select your modem, and you can access the release notes for compatibility.

Important

With the introduction of the new 5GF modem used in Ericsson Cradlepoint devices like the R2400 and RC1250, all NCOS releases include modem software, removing the requirement to manage two separate software images for those devices. See more details below.
