Ericsson Enterprise Wireless upstream proxy feature is a server that acts as an intermediary for requests from client devices connecting to HTTP and HTTPS web servers. When using an upstream proxy server, web connections by client devices are sent directly to the proxy server, which then establishes the connection to the web server.

Sending web traffic through an external upstream proxy can be beneficial for several reasons, including:

  • Content filtering may be performed by an external server.

  • User authentication may be used to control web access.

  • Encrypted data may be filtered.

  • The actual WAN IP address of a user connecting to a web page is hidden from the web server.

Note

If HTTPS traffic is to be sent to the proxy server for filtering, ensure that the Filter HTTPS checkbox under SECURITY > Web Access Filtering > Network Web Filter Rules is checked.
