Advanced authentication is configured from the Router Security page. The Router Security page allows administrators to manage device access either on the device itself (Local User mode) or by using remote, centralized servers (using TACACS+ or RADIUS) to validate user access.

Use the following steps to configure the basic router security settings:

  1. Log into NetCloud Manager.

  2. Select Devices in the left-side navigation panel.

  3. Select a router from the Routers page. Alternatively, to make configuration changes to a group, navigate to the Groups page and select a group.

  4. Select Configuration and then Edit.

  5. Navigate to SYSTEM > Administration > Router Security.

  6. Select Advanced Security Mode.

  7. Set the minimum length of the router's password in the Password Minimum length field. Password length cannot be set to less than seven characters.

  8. From the Authentication Mode drop-down menu, select one of the following:

  9. Select Ban IP Address to temporarily block login attempts originating from the same IP address after six failed logins. When Ban IP Address is enabled and six login attempts fail from a given IP address, further login attempts originating from the same IP address are blocked for 30 minutes.

    Note

With NetCloud OS 7.21.94 and later, the maximum failed login attempts value changed from six to five.
