Issue: The VRRP routers do not negotiate a primary and secondary state correctly.
Solution: Validate the All IP address information, VRRP passwords, and Virtual Router IDs are set correctly.
Issue: The VRRP master does not fail over when the WAN link is down.
Solution: Verify that the WAN fault priority is set to none (blank) and that WAN Verify is configured correctly. If WAN Verify is not configured and the WAN interface still has an active link, then it will not fail over. See Configuring WAN Verify for instructions on configuring this feature.
Issue: Difficulty interpreting the Ericsson Cradlepoint device console/command-line interface (CLI) messages related to VRRP.
Solution: VRRP status can be displayed in the device console by typing "vrrp". Tcpdump is also a valuable tool when troubleshooting VRRP issues.
Note
Network devices running VRRP will communicate using multicast address 224.0.0.18, which is represented as vrrp.mcast.net in the device console.
In addition, only the primary router generates VRRP advertisements; that is, Tcpdump only displays VRRP advertisements from the primary router. Advertisements are not generated by the secondary router in normal conditions.
