Use the following steps to configure the Hotspot Services feature:

  1. Log into NetCloud Manager.

  2. Select Devices in the left-side navigation panel.

  3. Select a router from the Routers page. Alternatively, to make configuration changes to a group, navigate to the Groups page and select a group.

  4. Select Configuration and then Edit.

  5. Navigate to NETWORKING > Local Networks > Local IP Networks.

  6. Select the LAN to use for the Captive Portal, and then click Edit.

This example uses the Guest LAN because it already has an open SSID associated with it and blocks router admin access. If you would like to define a new LAN, see the instructions in Configuring Multiple Networks on Cradlepoint Router.

  7. Click the IPv4 Settings tab.

  8. Select Hotspot from the IPv4 Routing Mode drop-down list.

  9. Click Save.

  10. Navigate to NETWORKING > Local Networks > Hotspot Services.

  11. From the Hotspot Mode drop-down menu, select Simple or RADIUS/UAM.

  12. Configure the other basic hotspot settings as necessary.

    • Local IP Network – This should list the LAN you configured in step 6. If not, click Configure to configure a LAN for hotspot services.

    • Allow Service on 3G/4G modems – Allows you to enable or disable hotspot access to the internet over a modem. This is often used if the router has a main wired link and a secondary modem for failover (typically with a more expensive/limited data plan). Select this option if you want the router to allow data traffic over the modem if the wired connection goes down.

    • Disable Service if Ethernet Threshold is met – Can be used if the router is being used as a backup failover connection to another router with a wired connection. If the other router's wired connection goes down and it starts using this router for its primary connection, then disable hotspot use of the WAN connection.

    • Redirect HTTPS Requests – Allows initial requests to HTTPS websites to be redirected appropriately.

    • Hotspot/UAM Authentication Port – This defaults to port 8000. Type in a different port number, or use the slider to change the port, as necessary.

  13. Proceed to one of the following procedures depending on whether you are configuring the hotspot in Simple mode or RADIUS/UAM mode.

Note

Pressing Reset located near the bottom of the page resets the hotspot settings to the last saved settings.

Any currently ongoing sessions must be restarted before the newly configured hotspot services settings apply to clients.

The Captive Portal feature does not remember clients. Each time a client's session is terminated for any reason, reauthentication is required before the client can access the internet again.
