The Modem tab allows you to configure modem-specific settings for better connection, hardware, and functional control of the modem.

  • Modem Connection Mode – Select the technology that the modem uses to connect to the network. This happens automatically or you may force the technology. Not all listed options are available for all modems. Modems default to Auto if an incompatible mode is selected.

    • Auto (all modes) – Let the modem decide which network to use (recommended as default setting).

    • Auto 4G (4G or less) – Let the modem decide which 2G, 3G, or 4G (LTE) network to use. Do not attempt to connect to 5G.

    • Force 5G Standalone – Connect to 5G Standalone (SA) networks only.

      Note

      This setting prevents 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) connections as well as earlier technologies.

    • Force 4G – Connect to 4G (LTE) networks only. Do not attempt 2G, 3G, or 5G.

  • Carrier Select – Select the modem firmware load to match the SIM that will be used in the modem. “Automatic” will detect the carrier and load the matching modem firmware for the SIM, if available. The available modem firmware can be modified in System > System Control > Modem Firmware.

  • Enable Aux Antenna – Enable or disable the modem's auxiliary diversity antenna. This should normally be left enabled. (Default: Selected)

  • Enable GPS – Enable or disable GPS support for modem.

  • GPS Signal Source – Select the antenna to be used for receiving GPS coordinates. Some products support a dedicated GPS antenna, while others use the auxiliary diversity antenna only (and some products support both).

  • Network Selection Mode – Wireless carriers are assigned unique network identifying codes known as Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN). To manually select a particular carrier, select the Manual radio button and enter the network PLMN. Choose from the following options:

    • Auto – Allow the modem to pick the PLMN based on its internal selection algorithm. (Default: Selected)

    • Home Only – Allows connection to the home carrier of the inserted SIM. Does not allow roaming to any other network.

    • Manual – Allow the modem to attach only to the manually entered PLMN.

    • Smart – Used for selecting the best available operator, as determined by a modem network scan combined seewith connection technology and signal strength evaluation. For more information on this option, Smart Operator Selection (S.O.S.).

  • Enable eHRPD – (Default: selected) Enable or disable the modem's ability to connect through enhanced High-Rate Packet Data (eHRPD) when connecting to a 3G EVDO network on Sprint. eHRPD routes EVDO traffic through the LTE systems, enabling easy transitions between LTE and EVDO. In rare cases, it may make sense to bypass the LTE core, so this field allows you to disable eHRPD.

  • Network-Initiated Alerts – This field controls whether the Sprint network can disconnect the modem to apply updates, such as for PRL, modem firmware, or configuration events. These activities do not change any router settings, but the modem connection may be unavailable for periods of time while these updates occur. The modem may also require a reset after a modem firmware update is complete.

    • Disabled – The request to update will be refused.

    • When Disconnected – The request to update is only performed when the modem is either in a disconnected state or dormant state. If the modem is not in one of these states when the request is received, then the router will remember the request and perform the update when the modem becomes disconnected or dormant.

    • On Schedule – The request to update will only be performed at the specified scheduled time, no matter the modem's state.

  • Functional Mode – Selects the functional mode of the modem. IP passthrough (IPPT) mode causes the modem to act as a transport, passing internet data and IP address information between the modem and the internet directly. NAT mode causes the modem to translate the IP address information. IPPT mode does not allow user access to the modem web UI. NAT mode does allow user access to the modem web UI.

  • Show Advanced Settings – Select Show Advanced Settings to modify the following:

    • IP WAN Subnet Filter – This feature filters out any packets going to the modem that do not match the network (address and netmask).

    • Carrier Aggregation – Enable or disable carrier aggregation.

    • Support eSIM Profile Failover - When using NetCloud OS 7.26.80 or later: For "eSIM Only" configurations, this feature automatically switches to the next available eSIM profile (if any) on an SGP.22 eSIM when connection attempts fail on the current profile. All operational profiles will be attempted (once) until a connection is made or all fail. Upon failure, the original profile will be left active.

      Note

      Profile switching requires a modem reset and possibly a firmware switch. You can predict the time delay by performing manual switches between the operational profiles. Once connected, the successful APN/DNN will be stored for subsequent attempts.

    • 5G Standalone – Enables 5G Standalone (SA) mode for modem/carrier combinations that support it. The No Change option uses the default behavior for the modem/carrier.

    • DHCP Relay Mode – If enabled, the interface will forward on DHCP requests and responses.

    • Voice Reject Mode – Process indicates that a voice call is answered, Reject indicates that the call is immediately rejected, and Ignore indicates that the call is left ringing and will be ignored.

    • Extend Connect Delay – The number of seconds to continue connection attempts before suspending.

    • Aggressive No Carrier – If enabled, a "no carrier" condition signals the modem to immediately restart scanning for better cellular registration conditions.

    • Enable Band 30 – Select this to enable use of Band 30.

    • Over-the-air APN Selection – Allow the use of an OTA (over-the-air) method to gather network-provided APN.

    • Enable Bands 25, 26, and 41 – Select this to enable use of Bands 25, 26, and 41.

    • Enable Band Masking – Select to allow custom configuration of disallowed cellular bands.

      Warning

      Disallowing bands may affect network connectivity, including connection instability or complete loss of cellular connectivity. This feature should only be used when working with a cellular operator for a specific and approved reason.
