Use the following steps to allow a device to use the LAN Gateway feature.
Log into NetCloud Manager.
Click in the left-side navigation panel.
Select a router from the Routers page. Alternatively, to make configuration changes to a group navigate to the Groups page and select a group.
Click and then .
Navigate to > >.
Select Use LAN Gateway.
In the LAN Gateway Address field, enter an address. This is the local device that acts as the gateway to the internet. The address must be within the address range of one of the LAN networks configured on the Cradlepoint router.
Adjust the DNS Server (primary) and Secondary DNS Server settings as needed
Click Save.
Once Router Services have been configured to use a LAN gateway, the device can be managed by NetCloud Manager using the LAN. However, because the device does not have an active WAN connection, NetCloud Manager will report the IP Address for the WAN source of the network the router is connected through.
Setting up a LAN gateway for router services can be used to save money when a Cradlepoint router is configured for 3G/4G failover behind another router. If your 3G/4G data plan is small/expensive, you can set router services to use the LAN connection (following the above steps) so that NCM doesn't use 3G/4G data unnecessarily.
In addition to NetCloud Manager, other “router services” also require a WAN connection by default but can be configured to use the LAN instead. For example, the above steps will enable a connection to an NTP (Network Time Protocol) server via the LAN.
