Private 5G Compact Mobility Gateway (Mobility Gateway) is deployed as a Virtual Machine (VM) and acts as the heart of Ericsson Private 5G Compact, facilitating connections between remote sites and resources and enforcing routing and policy decisions.

Mobility Gateway provides the foundation for Ericsson Private 5G Compact. As the customer-hosted mechanism for Ericsson Private 5G Compact, the Mobility Gateway works in conjunction with NetCloud Manager, Cellular Access Points, SIMs, routers, and the Spectrum Access Service to provide private cellular communications. Delivered in virtual form factor, for deployment on premises, the Private 5G Compact Mobility Gateway is easily provisioned using Ericsson NetCloud and managed like other Ericsson solutions.

Activation and use of Private 5G Compact Mobility Gateway requires a license to a NetCloud Service plan.

The steps in this guide involve downloading a .tar file from NetCloud Manager, decompressing it, and running Linux commands at a command line to deploy the Mobility Gateway. The included XML file contains all the settings you would normally have to setup manually if you were using a GUI for deployment.

The settings depicted in this guide are only a reference and do not represent the best or the only way of deploying the Mobility Gateway as a virtual machine. You may have to modify the deployment depending on your hardware and software versions or other factors.

Note

This guide is for KVM installations only. Proxmox is currently not supported.
