In some situations, the NetCloud Exchange Service Gateway is not able to connect to NetCloud Manager with its default settings. The NCX Service Gateway interfaces are initially created using DHCP based addresses. The setup command is used in the device console to adjust wan0, mgmt0, and lan0 interfaces, as well as Network Time Protocol (NTP) and Domain Name System (DNS) settings to correct common connection issues.

A Cradlepoint design best practice is to hardcode all NCX interfaces with static IP addresses if those addresses might change over time. If a NCX Service Gateway LAN side interface is required for network connectivity to data center resources, run the setup command a second time to set the lan0 IP address to a static value and check the previously configured settings.

The setup command provides validation checks for each setting to ensure the entered values are valid. The current values for each setting are displayed within brackets at the end of each entry line. The setup command also ensures that the wan0, mgmt0, and lan0 interfaces are on distinct subnets.

If a valid value is entered, but it is an incorrect value for the configuration, prior to registration within NetCloud Manager, the setup command can be re-run to change any resource configuration values. For example, a valid static IP address is entered, but it does not correspond to the subnet to which that interface is connected.

To cancel the setup command, press ctrl-C.

Complete the following steps to adjust the NCX Service Gateway settings using the setup command:

  1. Open the command-line interface (CLI).

  2.  Select Help and then Serial console in the left-side navigation panel,

  3. Click the banner to enable boot diagnostics, if it appears.

    1. Select Enable with managed storage account.

    2. Select the previously created storage account.

    3. Click Save.

    4. Click the X in the upper-right corner when the success message appears to return to the serial console and then click Refresh.

  4. When prompted, enter a new administrator password for the NCX Service Gateway, and confirm it.

    Note

    The password must contain at least 10 characters.

  5. Enter setup at the command line.

  6. Choose to configure the DNS or not, based upon your environment.

    • Y – Enter the DNS server address or enter None to delete the server.

    • N – Skips to the next configuration question.

  7. Choose to configure the NTP server or not, based upon your environment.

    • Y – Enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or IP address for the NTP server or enter None to delete the server.

    • N – Skips to the next configuration question.

  8. If changing the wan0 interface configuration, enter Y:

    • Enter DHCP or a static IP address for the interface.

    • If a static IP address is entered, enter the IP address and prefix for the interface's default gateway.

    N – Skips to the next configuration question.

  9. If changing the mgmt0 interface configuration, enter Y:

    • Enter DHCP or a static IP address for the interface.

    • Choose if you want remote access to the mgmt0 interface. If yes, enter the IP address for the mgmt0 interface's default gateway.

    N – Skips to the next configuration question.

  10. If the NCX Service Gateway was launched with three NICs, the physical LAN interface is automatically created with a DHCP based address. To change the IP address mode to static, enter setup at the command line again.
