Overview Guide

Device configurations define and control the operation of devices. Device configurations can be modified using the following methods:

  1. Edit or create a group configuration from the Groups page in NetCloud Manager using the Configuration menu

  2. Edit a device configuration from the Routers/APs tab in NetCloud Manager using the Configuration menu

  3. Edit a device configuration locally, through the individual device administration pages

In general, the recommended method for configuring devices is by creating a group configuration using the Groups page in NetCloud Manager. Group configurations apply to all devices in a group. If you have more specific settings for individual devices, edit the individual configurations for those devices on the Routers/APs tab. For example, you could make the administration password standard for an entire group and then create individual SSIDs for specific devices—both through NetCloud Manager. If someone tried to log into the device administration pages to change either the administration password or SSID, those changes would be merged into the NetCloud Manager Device configuration settings.

If configuration settings are edited using more than one of the above methods, the configuration changes are merged into one configuration.

If there are conflicts between any of the settings (such as the same configuration setting is modified in more than one place), the configuration setting value used is determined by where the configuration change was made.

The following table shows the configuration priority when there are conflicts between configuration settings made in more than one place.

Pending server changes will delete a pending local change. Local changes are only accepted if they are made after the device is synced. The exception is on registration, when local changes are merged with the individual configuration.
