Complete the following steps to enable the serial console on the NetCloud Virtual Edge:

  1. Click Virtual Machines in the VMWare Host Client inventory.

  2. Expand the selected ESXi host.

  3. Select the NetCloud Virtual Edge virtual machine (VM).

  4. Click the Power icon.

  5. Click ACTIONS and select Edit Settings.

  6. Click ADD NEW DEVICE and select Serial Port.

  7. Select User Network from the Serial port 1 drop-down menu.

  8. Enter telnet://:6001 for the Port URI and click OK.

  9. Select the Data Center Tree icon.

  10. Right-click on the ESXi host to open the Context menu.

  11. Select Configure and select Firewall.

  12. Select EDIT....

  13. Select gdbserver and then OK.

  14. Wait 1–2 minutes for the NetCloud Virtual Edge VM to boot up before accessing the serial console.

    Note

    When the virtual edge VM boots up, the full sequence of boot prints is not displayed on the VMware console.

  15. Open the command-line interface (CLI).

  16. Enter the CLI telnet <ESXI_IP> 6001 command to gain serial console access to the virtual edge VM. For example, telnet 10.240.6.126 6001.

    Note

    The ESXI_IP parameter is the IP address for where ESXi is hosted; it is not the virtual edge WAN IP address.

    Selecting LAUNCH REMOTE CONSOLE or LAUNCH WEB CONSOLE also opens the serial console.
