Each wireless radio (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) can broadcast as many as four SSIDs. One primary Wi-Fi network is enabled by default, while you may have enabled a second guest network when using the First Time Setup Wizard. You have the ability to change the settings for either of these networks and enable additional networks.

Navigate to NETWORKING > Local Networks > WiFi Radio #1 (2.4 GHz) or WiFi Radio #2 (5 GHz)

Select a Wi-Fi network and click Edit to change the settings.

  • WIFi Name (SSID) – When users browse for available wireless networks, this is the name that they see. This name is referred to as the service set identifier (SSID). For security purposes, Cradlepoint strongly recommends that you change this from the preconfigured name.

    • Hidden – This shows whether the router broadcasts its SSID. It is somewhat harder for hackers to find and attack a router that is not broadcasting its SSID, which adds to the wireless security, but it is also more difficult for friendly users to attach to a Wi-Fi network with a hidden SSID.

    • Isolate – Select this to isolate all wireless clients so they cannot directly communicate with one another on the wireless network.

    • WMM – Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) is a basic traffic shaping, or quality of service (QoS), system for the network. WMM works behind the scenes to set priorities for different types of traffic on your network. For example, video streams are given higher priority than print jobs, since video streams need consistent throughput.

    • Enabled – Whether the network is available.

    • Security Mode – You have several options for selecting a security mode. The mode you choose depends on the security features your wireless adapters support.

      Important

As of NetCloud OS 7.24.40 the following security options are no longer available on Ericsson Cradlepoint devices: WEP, TKIP encryption, and WPA 1.

      • WPA2 Personal

      • WPA2/WPA3 Personal

      • WPA3 Personal

      • WPA2 Enterprise

      • WPA3 Enterprise

      • Open

Select Open to create a hotspot; otherwise select the best security that your devices will support (Cradlepoint recommends WPA2).

Depending on which security mode you select, there are different setup options.

        • Personal security modes require passwords.

        • Enterprise security modes are linked to a RADIUS server and require RADIUS authentication: IP, Port, and Shared Key (Secondary IP and NAS ID optional).

        • WPA2 and WPA3 (Personal or Enterprise) forces AES as the WPA Cipher.

        • Open has no password or other security measures.

          Note

If you don’t know whether you should choose Personal or Enterprise, assume Personal since you need to know RADIUS authentication for Enterprise. In order to protect your network from hackers and unauthorized users, Cradlepoint strongly recommends WPA2/AES for security if your attached devices support it.

If you select one of the security modes and are unable to connect to the router afterward, you can use the reset buttons to reset the router to its factory default state and try a different security mode instead.
