Serial connections will continue working while the Cradlepoint is in IP passthrough mode.

To access the serial client device remotely, it would be necessary to use SSH-hopping: SSH into the Cradlepoint itself, and from within the Cradlepoint's console initiate the serial connection to the client device. When remote SSH is enabled in the Cradlepoint's remote admin settings, the router will know to intercept incoming SSH traffic instead of just blindingly passing it through to the client device.
