To configure a device, such as an IP camera, to use a static IP address, it must be on the same subnet as the router. The router’s subnet is typically defined in its settings, and by default, the subnet is set to 192.168.0.0/24. As long as the device’s IP address falls within this range, it can communicate with the router and other devices on the same subnet.
For example:
You have an IP camera connected to an Ericsson Cradlepoint router, and it’s configured with a static IP address.
You also have a computer connected to the same router.
You want to view images from the IP camera on your computer.
You’re using the default router settings.
Here’s how to configure the IP camera:
Set the IP camera’s address to any value within the range of 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.99.
Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.
Set the default gateway to 192.168.0.1.
If necessary, configure the DNS server to 192.168.0.1.
You should set the default gateway of the device to 192.168.0.1
If you need to configure a DNS server, set it to 192.168.0.1
Note
The default DHCP range on the router is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199, so you can avoid conflicts by choosing IP addresses outside this range, such as 192.168.0.200 to 192.168.0.254.
