Configuration Guide

SIMs for Ericsson Private 5G Compact can be traditional plastic SIMs (Private SIM) or eUICC eSIMs (Private eSIM).

Note

Consumer eUICC capability is not the same as M2M eUICC eSIM capability or embedded SIMs.

Private SIMs (plastic)

Private SIMs are shipped to your specified location where they can be installed in devices.

Private eSIMs (eUICC)

Private eSIMs can be downloaded onto a device (user equipment or UE) over a Wi-Fi connection that has consumer Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card (eUICC) capability (for example, an iPhone® 14 or a Google Pixel™). Once purchased, each Private eSIM appears in the customer's NetCloud Manager account on the Private SIM page.

You can then scan QR codes with individual devices from the Private SIM page to download the eSIM profile to the UE. See Downloading an eSIM Profile to a UE for information.

You can use third-party mobile device management software to push activation codes to individual devices. Both methods result in the device establishing a secure connection to a server and downloading the Private eSIM.

Note

Devices must have a Wi-Fi connection and be able to access digi.prod.ondemandconnectivity.com in order to download the eSIM profile.

Once installed, Private SIMs and Private eSIMs have the same functionality and can be activated and managed from the Private SIMs page in NetCloud Manager.

For any third-party devices which use Private SIMs or eSIMs, you may need to manually set internet as the APN (case sensitive). Consult the product's documentation for more information.

Note

Retaining an eSIM During Factory Reset: If a UE requires a factory reset, review the product documentation for the device. Both iOS and Android provide an option to retain an eSIM during a factory reset.
