Overview Guide

When implementing Ericsson Private 5G Compact Mobility Gateway, you will need the following network components that are not included:

  • Third-party hardware to host the Mobility Gateway VM image:

    • VMware ESX or KVM

  • Routers, switches, or other networking equipment — You will need to provide physical connectivity between the WAN edge router (backhaul), the Mobility Gateway, and Cellular APs

  • Backhaul — A backhaul is required to allow NetCloud Manager to communicate with the Mobility Gateway and Cellular APs. You can use your existing network to provide a backhaul or set up a Cradlepoint Edge Router. Reliability is important. An unreliable connection may cause connection timeouts or performance impacts.

  • PTP Time Server — A Time Server is required to synchronize multiple indoor Cellular APs on your network to a common time source. This allows Cellular APs to accurately communicate using Time Division Duplex (TDD) and handover UEs between Cellular APs. You can use a time server of your choice.

  • DHCP server — Depending on your configuration, you will need to register specific IPs for the mobility gateway.

  • External Antennas — Some Cellular AP models (currently the A2415 only) require one or two external antennas to function properly. Cradlepoint does not sell or support any external antennas. See the A2415 Outdoor Cellular Access Point Data Sheet for information about compatible antennas you can order from a third party.
