Hamina allows you to conduct a predictive site survey that can be used in conjunction with an onsite survey. Here are the general steps you take when using Hamina with Ericsson Private 5G Compact:
Upload a satellite image or a floor plan of the indoor or outdoor site and scale that map appropriately. See Getting Started for more information.
Add all walls and attenuating objects. See Walls and Attenuating Objects for more information.
Hamina default settings for attenuating objects may be higher than what is required for NCPN. Field testing is the best way to accurately determine attenuation.
When planning an outdoor network, you may need to account for elevation differences that are not on the uploaded map.
Add scope zones to define where coverage is desired on the map. See Scope Zones for more information.
Select and adjust a heatmap. See Heatmaps, for more information. Select 4G/5G for Private Cellular.
Add Cellular APs to the map. See Access Points for more information. Cradlepoint's Cellular APs are included by default in Hamina:
Cradlepoint A2400, max 30 dBm (indoor)
Cradlepoint A2405, max 40 dBm (outdoor)
Cradlepoint A2415 (outdoor)
Use channel planning to minimize or remove co-channel interference. See Channel Planning for more information.
Use the capacity planning feature to predict the number of clients for each AP and ensure that no AP becomes overloaded. See Capacity Planning for more information.
Important
Make sure to understand the throughput requirements of the User Equipment (UE) on your network. For example, IoT devices will likely require less throughput than other devices. Adjust the defaults in Hamina to account for these differences.
